Kaltura Tagging Conventions & Ownership Best Practices

When adding videos to Kaltura as part of a course development project, make sure to add the following three tags to each video. Adding these tags will make finding the videos much easier in Kaltura when maintenance needs to be performed on the course.

Video Tags

  1. Course ID, e.g. padm60371 (no space)
  2. FlashLine ID of subjects appearing in the video, e.g. jfaculty2 (do NOT include @kent.edu)
  3. Department, e.g. kso

Note: there may be multiple tags needed; for example if more than one person appears in a video or if a video is associated with more than one department.

View an example video with tags attached.

Note: Kaltura will automatically convert upper case to lower case lettering. Do not delete any existing tags that were automatically generated and attached to the video when/if it was migrated from KSUtube to Kaltura.

Transferring Ownership

Ownership of videos in Kaltura may be transferred to developers at the completion of a course build.

Note: Transferring ownership is required if requested by the developer or department.

Be sure to have all tags, as well and any edits to description or settings completed prior to the transfer. Should an edit need to be made after the transfer you can use the Kaltura Admin Page to make further changes, except transferring ownership. Once ownership is transferred it cannot be retrieved without the assistance of Information Services.
